According to Radar Online, the allegation comes from journalist Tina Brown, who discussed the situation on her Substack on August 22. Brown claimed producers had backed away from Meghan Markle’s reported casting in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix crime series, “The Gentlemen.” She attributed the decision to what she described as an intense British reaction to the Duchess of Sussex’s possible involvement.
Brown wrote that she had learned the casting “has been withdrawn” and argued that the reaction in the UK had made continuing with the reported plan difficult. She also suggested the development doesn’t “bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK.” However, neither Markle, Netflix nor Ritchie has publicly confirmed that the alleged casting ever reached an official stage.
The timing makes the report particularly notable. Markle had only recently emerged in reports as a potential addition to “The Gentlemen,” with discussions supposedly still in their early phase. Season 2 will premiere on September 3, while Netflix has not officially announced a third season. That means the reported role was already uncertain even before Brown’s latest claim surfaced.
A potential acting return also comes alongside reports that Markle and Prince Harry intend to spend more time in the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The couple reportedly plans to retain their California residence while creating a private base in Britain after moving to the United States in 2020.
Meanwhile, Markle faces separate criticism surrounding her As Ever lifestyle brand. Her 2024 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc sells for $35, while British retailer Laithwaites reportedly offers a similar New Zealand bottle for about $21. A source told the outlet that Markle’s premium positioning invites comparisons, giving critics another opening to question whether her name warrants the higher price.
