James Corden’s former Late Late Show bandleader Reggie Watts has been making headlines following reports of Katherine Early McCollough’s death, which authorities reported as a suicide. After remaining silent about the matter for some time, the musician’s lawyer has now broken his silence and offered clarification.
Reggie Watts denied having any role in Katherine Early McCollough’s suicide in Peru
According to Rollingstone coverage, the 54-year-old comedian has denied any responsibility for his ex-girlfriend Katherine Early McCollough’s suicide through his attorney. The situation began when her younger sister, Colleen McCollough, released a statement, and Reggie Watts’ lawyer, Andrew Brettler, followed with his own statement.
“I feel very strongly that the sister that I knew before this relationship would still be here if she had never met him,” Colleen said
However, Reggie Watts’ lawyer said that blaming the comedian for Katherine Early McCollough’s suicide is dangerously false, arguing that the event producer had already been using drugs and did not need anyone’s encouragement to do so.
For context, the American comedian and musician has been a vocal supporter of ketamine use, something that was also evident from some of his comments in a 2025 interview.
Watts said, “You leave [when you’re on ketamine]. You’re just pure consciousness observing itself. It’s also so close to observing itself that it’s almost on the edge of paradox. It’s like dancing on the edge of a black hole. That experience when you’re coming out of it is very interesting because you’re becoming lucid but you’ve just been through one of the most hyper-real experiences, at least for me.”
Katherine Early McCollough died by suicide at a hotel in Peru on March 28, 2026, at the age of 36. Another person, Fabian Gorldt, was also found dead with her. As for her relationship with Reggie Watts, the event show producer and the comedian had reportedly been in a relationship since 2024.
