‘Major F— Up’: Jason Statham’s Mutiny Leak Has Film Buyers Furious

Amazon accidentally leaked Jason Statham’s upcoming action thriller Mutiny on Prime Video days before its theatrical release, sparking outrage across the industry. The full-length movie remained available for hours earlier this week after a backend error placed it on a product detail page typically reserved for trailers.

The leak has triggered widespread piracy in multiple territories and left international distributors fuming. Lionsgate, which releases the movie in U.S. theaters this weekend, is among several buyers demanding answers from the streaming giant.

Mutiny leak has overseas buyers calling it a ‘multimillion-dollar problem for Amazon’

The $50 million-plus production opened strongly in France and the Middle East yesterday before news of the leak came up. However, that early momentum is now in serious jeopardy as pirated copies circulate online.

“This is an unprecedented situation,” one international buyer told Deadline. “It’s a major f—up. I’ve never been in this situation before. What’s clear is that this is a multimillion-dollar problem for Amazon, and buyers will expect a check to be written to help resolve this.”

Lionsgate reportedly paid eight figures for domestic rights. Cinema chains have also expressed frustration, with some demanding accountability from the tech giant, which serves as a Premium VOD partner on the picture. Multiple sources claim Lionsgate’s anti-piracy team is working to mitigate damage while international buyers coordinate a formal response to Amazon.

Reddit users first spotted the Mutiny leak on the U.S. version of Prime Video. It was later confirmed that the entire 1-hour-and-35-minute runtime was briefly available before being pulled. Fans have voiced similar frustrations across social media, with many pointing out that such leaks undermine theatrical releases. Others questioned how a major platform like Amazon could make such a significant error.

Directed by Jean-François Richet, Mutiny stars Jason Statham as Cole Reed, a man framed for murdering his billionaire boss who uncovers an international conspiracy while on the run. Annabelle Wallis, Arnas Fedaravicius, and Jason Wong also feature in supporting roles. It opens in roughly 2,700 North American theaters on August 21 with box office tracking projecting a high single-digit million debut.
