Prince William and Kate Middleton Make Balmoral Move Amid Harry’s Return Plans

Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly arrived at Balmoral Castle with their children. Their arrival came shortly after reports about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s U.K. plans. The Wales family joined other royals at the Scottish estate for their summer retreat.

Prince William and Kate Middleton arrive at Balmoral as Harry and Meghan reportedly plan a U.K. return.

Prince William and Kate reportedly reached Balmoral with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The family traditionally spends part of the summer at the Scottish residence. Their visit came shortly after Harry and Meghan’s plans for Britain became public.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly planned an extended U.K. stay. Their children, Archie and Lilibet, were also to begin school in Britain. However, the family was keeping the location of their new home private, according to Hello!.

King Charles was reportedly informed about Harry and Meghan’s plans earlier this week. The monarch was said to welcome more opportunities to spend time with his grandchildren. Their planned move would allow the family to spend more time in Britain.

Meanwhile, William and Kate continued their own family traditions at Balmoral. King Charles had already arrived at the residence earlier this week. Other members of the royal family were also reportedly staying at the estate.

Balmoral remained closely associated with the British royal family’s summer traditions. The estate had been a favorite retreat since Queen Victoria’s reign. William also spent childhood summers there and could now share those experiences with his children.

“It was a life of picnics and paddling around,” Queen Elizabeth’s cousin Margaret Rhodes previously recalled. The estate offered the royals opportunities for outdoor activities and private family time.

Harry also grew up visiting Balmoral during his childhood. However, Meghan was not believed to have previously visited the Scottish castle. Queen Elizabeth traditionally welcomed relatives there during the month of August.

The Wales family’s arrival therefore came during an important period for the royal family. Harry and Meghan were reportedly preparing for a longer presence in Britain. Their plans also followed a recent visit with Archie and Lilibet.

The children recently reunited with King Charles during that visit. Their planned U.K. return could provide further opportunities for family gatherings. Meanwhile, William and Kate continued their summer break at Balmoral.

The developments placed the royal family in Scotland amid renewed discussion about the Sussexes’ reported U.K. plans.
