A new rumor potentially sheds light on when Oscar Isaac will return as Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately for Marvel fans, it might not happen in Avengers: Secret Wars or any other projects that come out before it.
Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight may not return until after Avengers: Secret Wars
Industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight return might happen in a Midnight Sons project. Given the current status of the MCU, it will likely come out after Avengers: Secret Wars, which debuts in US theaters on December 17, 2027.
While Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced a project to adapt Midnight Sons for the big or small screen, the production house’s recent activities suggest it is building toward just that. In the comics, the aforementioned superhero team that takes on demons and monsters has featured over the years individuals such as Moon Knight, Blade, Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night, and Jennifer Kale.
Among them, Kale has appeared in Agatha All Along, portrayed by Sasheer Zamata. Marvel released the TV special Werewolf by Night on Disney+ in 2022, starring Gael García Bernal as the titular character. In 2026, Ryan Gosling joined the MCU as Ghost Rider. Accordingly, while the Oscar winner Mahershala Ali has revealed that he had “moved on” from the Blade movie and the MCU, the Midnight Sons project remains a possibility.
Additionally, Isaac has confirmed Midnight Sons talks in various interviews. “I mean, again, it’s a…there’s a very tonally…it’s really important, because we’re playing with real stuff,” the Dune actor explained. “It’s expressing something very real and challenging and difficult,” Isaac added. He also called the source material “crazy” and speculated on starring alongside Gosling. At the time, Marvel hadn’t officially announced Gosling’s casting.
As the sprawling MCU continues to expand, a Midnight Sons adaptation might eventually be on the cards for Marvel. However, fans may have to wait until after 2027 to see the supernatural team make its live-action debut.
