A new HBO Max TV show has been renewed for Season 2 following its overwhelmingly positive debut. The latest series is based on an iconic and fan-favorite show from the past.
The Big Bang Theory spin-off Stuart Fails to Save the Universe was released on July 23, 2026 and has already locked its future moving forward. It’s been confirmed that the HBO Max TV show will receive a second season as well.
The massive update comes following a mostly favorable response from critics as well as viewers. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has been ‘Certified Fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, it holds a solid Tomatometer score of 77% and an impressive Popcornmeter score of 84%. Also, it became HBO Max’s second-biggest comedy launch ever across the globe.
Following the news of its extension, Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Series, said, “We’re delighted with how this hilarious, genre-bending show from Chuck, Zak, and Bill has connected with the audience, both devotees of The Big Bang Theory and new fans alike.”
The Big Bang Theory spinoff follows Stuart Bloom through a multiverse crisis
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is led by Kevin Sussman in the titular role. He is stuck in a multiverse crisis and tries to restore the reality after he breaks a device that was originally built by Sheldon and Leonard.
According to the comedy show’s official logline, “Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke. Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory. As the title implies, things don’t go well.”
Besides Sussman, the cast also includes Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert Kibbler, and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke.
The Big Bang Theory spin-off series comes from a collaboration between Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television. It’s created, written, and executive produced by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady. Additionally, Kyle Newacheck is also serving as an executive producer while also directing various episodes.
New episodes of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will arrive weekly on HBO Max. The Season 1 finale will premiere on September 24, 2026.
