A new name has entered the race for Storm in the MCU’s X-Men reboot, and it’s not who fans expected. Insider Jeff Sneider revealed a surprising casting rumor for the iconic mutant ahead of Marvel’s D23 panel.
Suzy Bemba rumored for X-Men’s Storm ahead of D23
Entertainment insider Jeff Sneider revealed on The Hot Mic that French actress Suzy Bemba could play Storm in the MCU’s X-Men reboot. Sneider shared the rumor during the August 13 episode, stating he received the tip from a longtime source shortly before going live. He noted this same source previously identified Kit Connor’s involvement before it became public knowledge.
Bemba earned recognition for her role in Poor Things and currently stars in the upcoming Cliffhanger movie alongside Lily James. The 26-year-old actress has built a professional modeling career and earned a spot in the European Shooting Stars program at the Berlin International Film Festival. Additionally, she founded the Actors Association (ADA), a professional support group that combats harassment for French actors.
Meanwhile, Sneider stressed he was not fully certain about the rumor compared to previous casting scoops he has broken. He described the information as coming from “one person who’s obviously been a very very very good source of mine over the years.” Co-host John Rocha then pointed out that Bemba’s darker complexion aligns with fan expectations for a more comics-accurate portrayal of Storm.
Furthermore, Rocha highlighted Bemba’s age as a practical consideration for the MCU’s long-term plans. Her age could allow Marvel to eventually pair Storm with a new T’Challa in Black Panther 3 or future installments. Sneider also suggested the casting choice felt “more like a Ryan Coogler choice than a Jake Schreier choice,” referencing Coogler’s reported involvement in the search.
D23 kicks off on Friday, and Sneider predicted four X-Men cast members would appear at the panel. He specifically identified Sadie Sink, Samara Weaving, and Kit Connor as likely attendees alongside a possible fourth reveal. However, Sneider cautioned that Marvel’s overall presentation would remain relatively modest compared to fan expectations surrounding the event.
