Directed by Atom Egoyan, The Captive was released in select theaters on September 5, 2014. The film’s story revolves around the disappearance of a young girl and the impact the unresolved case has on her family years later.
Matthew Lane is buying a pie at a roadside shop in Niagara Falls when his 9-year-old daughter, Cassandra, disappears from his truck. The investigation that follows places Matthew under suspicion, while the loss of his daughter puts increasing strain on his marriage to Tina. Eight years pass without Cassandra being found, but Matthew remains connected to the investigation.
The case changes when detectives uncover evidence that suggests Cassandra is still alive. Now a teenager, Cassandra has been held against her will and has been unable to contact her family. The new evidence gives investigators another opportunity to uncover what happened to her.
