Prince Harry‘s uneasy Eton memories resurfaced as Prince George prepared for the same school milestone. The Duke of Sussex once called arriving there “a profound shock” in “Spare.” George, 13, is due to start at Eton College in September. The report linked Harry’s old comments to the next phase of George’s education. It also contrasted the institution’s royal prestige with Harry’s account of feeling overwhelmed there.
Prince Harry’s Eton College memories resurface as Prince George approaches school milestone
According to Hello!Magazine report, Prince George will start at Eton in September. The outlet said Prince William and Prince Harry also attended the school. For context, Harry wrote in “Spare” that he entered Eton in early autumn 1998.
He had completed Ludgrove the previous spring. The Duke called the move “a profound shock.” He also described Eton as “the finest school in the world for boys.” The outlet also noted that William became the first senior royal to enroll there in 1995. That shifted family tradition after earlier royals attended Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland, before Harry followed.
Meanwhile, Harry linked that shock to the school’s atmosphere and founding myth. He wrote that Henry VI wanted visitors to feel like “meek, abased pilgrims.” Then, he added, “In my case, mission accomplished.” The memoir also said the school worked for “brilliant boys.” However, he called it “purgatory” for one “very unbrilliant boy.” The quote shaped the resurfaced warning around Prince George’s move.
Still, the report noted another source of discomfort. Harry wrote that he sometimes confessed he was “in the wrong location.” He said he was “way, way over my head.” According to the excerpt, teachers and classmates replied, “Don’t worry, you’ll be all right.”
The article also revisited his uniform complaints. Harry described the outfit as a “black tailcoat” with a “white collarless shirt.” For Prince George, the Eton chapter will follow a very different family lens.
