Andy Cohen Has Blunt Response to ‘MAGA’ Housewives Backlash

Andy Cohen responded to a fan who said they stopped watching The Real Housewives of Orange County because of the show’s politically conservative cast members. Cohen defended the franchise’s approach to casting, saying the series is about the women’s relationships rather than their political views.

Andy Cohen insisted the franchise centers on personal relationships, not politics

Political differences among the cast came up for Andy Cohen this weekend, and he took the question head-on.

“Why so many MAGA women?? I can’t watch OC anymore because of them,” one Threads user asked Andy, 58, on Sunday, Aug. 9. That referred to Real Housewives of Orange County.

Cohen defended the casting approach, arguing that the show needs to feature women with different viewpoints. Cohen did not identify which cast members the fan was referring to.

Sunday brought other questions his way. One person wanted to know if any Bravo personality deserved a run at public office, or if fame should disqualify a candidate outright.

His verdict on precedent came out harsh. “So far the track record for reality stars running for office is TERRIBLE,” Andy responded via Threads. “So I’m hesitant to say I think there are some really smart people on Bravo with great communication skills who could be effective in public service though.”

Few people carry more weight on such questions. Cohen has worked behind the scenes on the Housewives franchise for years. His latest comments came in response to a single Threads user criticizing RHOC’s political makeup.

Andy Cohen’s boyfriend skipped the Housewives entirely.

Something else about his private life surfaced days earlier. Kevin Sobieski, his boyfriend, apparently pays no attention to the shows that made Andy famous.

“[He’s] never seen it,” Andy revealed on the Wednesday, Aug. 5, broadcast of Today. By his account, Kevin, 42, has “not seen one frame” of one of the hit Bravo shows.

Some awareness has crept in sideways. “His algorithm is feeding him Housewives-related things [now] because our phones listen to everything we say, so he’s starting to get a sense of the universe, but he has no clue,” Andy added.

Far from bothering him, the blind spot amuses him. “I love it. He loves my kids and me, and that’s what’s important,” Andy said of son Ben, 7, and daughter Lucy, 4. “I’ll get him there.” Surrogacy brought both children into his life.

TELL US – DO YOU AGREE WITH ANDY COHEN THAT RHOC SHOULD FEATURE WOMEN WITH DIFFERENT POLITICAL VIEWS?
