The Simpsons may finally come to an end after almost 40 years. Bart Simpson’s voice actor, Nancy Cartwright, has predicted that the show would eventually come to an end. On the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, the actress shared that the iconic show may wrap up after Season 40 around 2029. This gave fans a potential end date for The Simpsons.
Cartwright has been part of the show since the start. That dates back to when it was a segment on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987 and made its standalone debut two years later, in 1989.

During the podcast, Rosenbaum asked her, “How long do you think The Simpsons will go?” Cartwright responded, “40”. The host further asked whether she meant the show will end after its 40th season, to which she agreed. At the time of writing, there hasn’t been any official confirmation of the end date from any representatives of The Simpsons. However, Cartwright clarified that it was her opinion and not an official announcement.
The American actress also expressed that she is open to keep working on The Simpsons if they decide to keep going after the 40th season. Rosenbaum asked, “What if they said, ‘We wanna keep going?’” to which she jokingly replied, “Are we still alive?” He confirmed that everyone is still around and working. She replied, “Yeah, we’ll keep going then.” “Would you go as long as they wanted to keep going?” he asked. “Absolutely,” she replied.
The actress made this comment as the show returns for its 38th season. Fox has already renewed The Simpsons through Season 40, which is expected to air in fall 2028.
With The Simpsons renewed till Season 40 as part of Fox’s four-season renewal, the franchise is set to release its second theatrical feature film, The Simpsons 2, on September 3, 2027. They are returning to theatres two decades after the release of The Simpsons Movie in 2007. The film was a massive hit and earned more than $536 million globally.
