Kevin Bacon’s upcoming supernatural thriller has cast a familiar face from the Scream franchise. Giorgia Whigham, best known for her work in MTV’s horror series, has reportedly joined the project, adding serious genre credentials to an already impressive team.

The film, titled Summoner, hails from Amazon MGM Studios and is the directorial debut of Jeremy Slater, the writer behind Mortal Kombat II and The Umbrella Academy. Production is reportedly beginning this autumn in Ireland, with a theatrical release planned.
Giorgia Whigham will play a protection agent in the film, starring opposite Kevin Bacon as the central character. The actress rose to prominence playing Blaire Bennett in Seth MacFarlane’s Peacock series Ted. It became the most-watched original title in the platform’s history when it debuted in 2024. Her horror background runs deep, with roles in MTV’s Scream and appearances in Marvel’s The Punisher and Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. She recently wrapped a lead role in the indie feature How the Cookie Crumbles, which she also executive-produced.
Summoner follows exorcist Jefferson Haddock, played by Bacon, as he confronts a terrifying demon at an isolated witness-protection property. Leading to accidentally unleashing a force that threatens to end him and everything around him.
The producing team also carries a significant horror pedigree. Andy Muschietti, the filmmaker behind the blockbuster It franchise, is producing alongside Barbara Muschietti and Russell Ackerman. The trio recently collaborated on the horror movie They Will Kill You, released by Warner Bros. in March. Dan Kagan, a producer on the acclaimed horror hit Longlegs, serves as executive producer alongside Melissa Russell, Carl Hampe, and John Schoenfelder.
Slater brings extensive genre experience to his first feature as director. He earned creator credits on Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight and Fox’s The Exorcist, co-wrote Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, and served as co-creator on Netflix’s long-running superhero series The Umbrella Academy. His screenplay for Mortal Kombat II was released in cinemas earlier this year.
