Nicolas Cage‘s Madden movie has locked its release date. The Spider-Noir star will play the iconic role of football legend John Madden. The upcoming biopic is directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker David O. Russell.
The official synopsis for Madden reads, “Inspired by the life of a beloved American icon, Madden chronicles John Madden’s incredible journey alongside best friend and true original Al Davis – from a Super Bowl-winning partnership with the Raiders, to becoming football’s most recognizable voice, to building the worldwide Madden NFL video game. Madden is the celebration of a brilliant mind whose once in a century spirit and personality, partnership with his daring wife Virginia, lifelong friendships, and infectious love of people and football transcended the world of sports.”

Nicolas Cage has teased his role as John Madden in the upcoming sports movie based on the famous football icon. In the promotional footage, the actor shares what he felt like while playing the character. “Accepting the role to play this larger than life legend has been a highlight for me. John Madden didn’t just coach football, he changed the game. His football brilliance was unmatched. “As a broadcaster, his brilliance evolved.”
Cage also teased another crucial character’s significance in the movie, Al Davis, played by Christian Bale, who was Madden’s very good friend.
The announcement video concludes with the American actor admiring John Madden’s legacy, which still “lives on, not just on the football field or in the broadcast booth, but globally through gaming.”
Apart from his charismatic on-field presence, the late football legend also became immortal with his inevitable impact on the highly successful video game franchise, Madden NFL.
The upcoming movie’s ensemble cast also features Kathryn Hahn, Sienna Miller, John Mulaney, and Shane Gillis. It has Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Jonathan Shukat, David O. Russell, Matthew Budman, and Colin Wilson as the producers. David Bloomfield, Constance Schwartz-Morini, and Michael Strahan are serving as the executive producers.
