The Shallows, starring Blake Lively, is headed to Netflix later this month. According to What’s on Netflix, the survival thriller has been scheduled to begin streaming on the platform on August 15, 2026.

The Shallows is a survival thriller directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay by Anthony Jaswinski. It was released in theaters across the United States on June 24, 2016. The story follows medical student Nancy Adams, who travels to a secluded beach in Mexico while coping with the loss of her mother.

However, her peaceful surfing trip quickly turns into a life-or-death struggle after she is attacked by a great white shark. Injured and stranded on a small rock just 200 yards from shore, Nancy is left isolated in open water. She must overcome her injuries and outthink the predator as she searches for a way back to safety.

Lively stars as Nancy Adams, with Óscar Jaenada portraying Carlos. The film’s supporting cast includes Brett Cullen as Mr. Adams, Sedona Legge as Chloe Adams, Pablo Calva as Boy, and Janelle Bailey as Mrs. Adams, among others.

The film received generally positive reviews from critics upon release and went on to achieve commercial success at the box office. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 78 percent critics’ rating based on 218 reviews. Meanwhile, the audience score stands at 59 percent.

According to Box Office Mojo, The Shallows grossed just over $119 million worldwide during its theatrical run. The total includes more than $55 million from domestic theaters and over $63 million from international markets.
