President Donald Trump is reportedly losing patience with his administration’s war on Iran. Insiders claim there are divisions among his top officials over strategy and endgame goals. And this has left the 80-year-old commander-in-chief increasingly “exasperated.”
Donald Trump’s advisers are reportedly divided over the goals and possible endgame of the Iran war
NBC News reports that Donald Trump “exploded” at a meeting with senior national security officials last week. He reportedly started “yelling expletives” over the lack of progress in a war that began February 28 and has killed 18 U.S. service members. A U.S. official and sources close to the discussions described the internal turmoil.
Officials cannot agree on what the Iran war should achieve. Some push to destroy the nation’s nuclear programme. Others prioritize protecting oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. A third faction wants to target Tehran’s missile and drone arsenal.
“After all this time, there is no unity,” an official alleged to the outlet. Additionally, one official warned that tactical successes now risk becoming “a strategic defeat without clear policy guidance or a decision about where this is going.”
Moreover, Trump’s frustration is with Iran’s refusal to negotiate. A Trump ally who recently discussed the war with the president claimed, “I don’t think he believed it was going to be this difficult to get the Iranians to agree to a deal. There was not a real strategy for how long or what they should do to get to the endpoint.”
“He did not intend this to be a long, drawn-out war,” the ally added. This week, a “surprise attack” from Iran blindsided Trump days after he paused bombing. Trump claimed the pause came because the regime “wanted to talk.” Iran’s foreign ministry denied any interest in direct negotiations. Trump then threatened escalation, telling Fox News, “We are going to beat the f–king s–t out of them.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denied reports of a tantrum. “This is false. The president has a great team whom he trusts, and everyone on the team knows he’s the final decision-maker,” she stated to The Daily Beast. She added, “He’s locked and loaded to keep punishing Iran.”
