Royal experts describe conflicting approaches to Prince Harry inside the royal family
Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham told Fox News Digital that King Charles’ latest palace stay offer to Prince Harry could potentially repair their relationship. However, it may put the monarch at odds with his elder son, Prince William. According to him, the offer sends a “defiance” message to the Prince of Wales, who reportedly doesn’t want to keep in contact with his estranged brother.
British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard further told the outlet about how the Sussexes’ exit from the family forced William to “grow up fast as the future king.” She added that he was left to take care of the institution while his younger brother departed his homeland to start a new life in California.
However, Chard notes that William holds a firm belief that the monarchy should do “the right thing,” no matter how difficult it is. “From what I understand, he felt his father didn’t handle that firmly enough. He also believes in protecting it by drawing hard lines. But he’s not the king yet,” she explained.
Chard claims that Charles remains determined to make things right with his younger son, while William and Kate Middleton want to keep their boundaries. “Charles is reigning, but William and Catherine are planning,” she elaborated. “And that planning is starting to look a lot like leading. Charles wants healing. William and Catherine want survival and stability. William is not doing this to be difficult. He’s doing it because he believes it’s right.”
Meanwhile, Harry is set to arrive in the U.K. in September, as he will have various engagements surrounding the annual WellChild Awards.
