Kate Middleton’s latest Instagram post has ignited a lively debate online. This was after some social media users claimed her “Summer Rewind” photo collection had the same style as Meghan Markle’s latest photo dump. While critics accused the Princess of Wales of borrowing a familiar format, many royal fans defended the post. The latter praised it as a heartfelt look back at several months of public service and family life.
Kate Middleton branded ‘nauseating’ for copying Meghan Markle with summer recap photos
The official Instagram account of the Prince and Princess of Wales shared the montage on Tuesday, July 28. It offered followers a collection of photos and videos highlighting royal engagements and personal family moments from the summer. Captioned “The Summer Rewind. Thank you to everyone who has made the last few months so special!”, the post featured Prince William and Princess Kate at several high-profile events.
The montage opened with a photo of the couple hosting a garden party at Buckingham Palace on May 8, where Prince William wore a traditional top hat. It also included photographs from Royal Ascot on June 17 and clips from this year’s Wimbledon Championships. This included Kate presenting the women’s singles trophy.
Another video showed Kate speaking with a former patient during a visit to The Christie cancer care hospital in June. The collection also featured one of the family’s most-loved photographs, a picture of William and Kate lying on the grass with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and the family’s dogs, Orla and Otto. The image was first released in April to celebrate the couple’s 15th wedding anniversary.
Shortly after the post appeared online, some users on X argued that the nostalgic photo dump resembled the style Meghan Markle has frequently used on her Instagram account. One critic wrote, “Kate and William’s one-sided competition with the Sussexes is nauseating. A future king and queen repackaging old pictures as a summer vacation dump says more about their insecurities and lack of class.”
Not everyone agreed with the criticism, however, as several royal supporters praised the Princess of Wales for balancing official duties with family life. One supporter wrote, “Balancing high-profile public service with private family life isn’t easy under constant media focus. It’s great to see them highlighting their charitable initiatives alongside genuine personal milestones.” Another commenter added, “A lovely glimpse into their work and family moments. It’s nice to see the personal side behind public service.”
