However, when some playful interactions didn’t land as intended, the situation was eventually handled by production.
Sources say Meghan Markle faced ‘awkward’ moments in MasterChef
An insider told New Idea that Meghan Markle faced “awkward” moments during MasterChef Australia filming, as she appeared to have no idea about what was happening. “It wasn’t about Meghan personally,” the source said. “Poh [Ling Yeow] felt she had been unintentionally drawn into a royal protocol issue she never intended to be part of. She was willing to reach out immediately. But she was advised to leave it for production to handle.”
The insider clarified that there was no tension between Markle and the judges. However, it seemed like everyone was trying hard to create ideal moments for TV. They further reflected on Yeow’s personality, on how she is full of energy and has a sense of humor to lift spirits. Therefore, she used her humor to ease the awkwardness on set with Markle by making a few lighthearted jokes, but some of them didn’t land as expected.
“It wasn’t major drama, just a few awkward moments during filming that were adjusted in the final edit. Meghan was a great guest, and we feel very lucky she agreed to appear on the show,” another insider added. The Duchess of Sussex is scheduled to appear as a guest judge on the competition on July 26 at 7 p.m. Ahead of her appearance, a preview video was released, which faced massive backlash. This is because many believe that Markle appeared “fake” and tried too hard to act.
In a statement earlier, Markle revealed what appealed to her to become a part of MasterChef. “What attracted me to the MasterChef Australia kitchen? Two things: my love of food and my love of Australia. It was an easy yes. It’s such a great show. I’m just really honoured that I was asked to be able to be here with you and to be able to judge some of these meals,” she explained.
