Olivia Wilde is reflecting on the intense attention surrounding her film Don’t Worry Darling and her past relationship with Harry Styles. The actress claimed that the public drama impacted her personally and the 2022 psychological thriller. Wilde spoke about the experience years after the film’s release. Wilde shared that she now sees the experience with more perspective.
Olivia Wilde reflected on the Don’t Worry Darling controversy and her relationship with Harry Styles in a new interview.
Wilde addressed the matter on The Louis Theroux Podcast on Tuesday, July 21. Host Louis Theroux spoke about the media attention the film received and the criticism it garnered during the interview, as well as Wilde’s interactions with Styles. Wilde agreed when Theroux said the negative attention hurt the movie. “I think it did hurt; it hurt the film,” she said.
The actress added that the incident had a personal impact on her too. “It hurt me, for sure,” Wilde added. Don’t Worry Darling was making headlines for Shia LaBeouf’s exit, Harry Styles’ addition to the show, and speculation about pay differences with Florence Pugh and Wilde’s relationship with Styles. Earlier, Wilde described some of the reports as clickbait.
In September 2020, Wilde and Styles met during the filming of the movie. In January 2021, they officially confirmed their relationship when they attended a wedding together. Sources told PEOPLE that the pair had drifted apart after spending nearly two years together in November 2022. Wilde said she understands why people made assumptions when they did not have all the information.
Wilde also spoke about the relationship in a June episode of Call Her Daddy. She mentioned that because Styles has a very large fan base and people are connected with him, they were reacting strongly to the news. Wilde said their relationship was “very domestic and kind and lovely.” They had their own world apart from the outside attention, she said.
