King Charles reportedly organized a family summit before reuniting with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Sussexes’ preparations to travel to the UK sparked multiple tensions, especially regarding security. Consequently, the monarch allegedly wanted to discuss the challenges surrounding his son’s comeback. According to a source, he called senior royals to an ultra-rare summit to “deal with the Prince Harry problem.”
King Charles held ‘crisis talks’ before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reunion, per source
According to RadarOnline, King Charles hosted a private “dine and sleep” before the reunion of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Queen Camilla and Prince William joined the King at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh for the meeting. The dinner occurred before the annual Order of the Thistle service, bringing together the core of the monarchy’s leadership. Royal sources also claimed that organizers had scheduled the dinner well in advance.
However, the timing reportedly offered a perfect opportunity to discuss issues related to Harry’s arrival. “This was very much a senior strategy dinner – crisis talks, if you like,” one insider said. The insider continued, “Officially it was about Royal Week and Scottish duties.” However, “in reality, you don’t get the King, the Queen, and the heir in one room overnight without Harry being on the agenda.” The source also claimed the royals shared a mutual desire to address “managing Harry’s visit in a way that would not derail everything else the family is trying to do.”
Additionally, a source said that advisers still struggle with the “recurring psychodrama” surrounding the Duke of Sussex’s movements. Sources also claimed that before Harry’s entry, the King offered to accommodate his son at a royal residence. However, the Prince was reportedly understood to not accept this, which led to another clash between the father and son after the eventual rejection. The Duke allegedly preferred hotels or private homes over official accommodation while traveling. This instance reportedly complicated security planning and highlighted his distance from the institution.
An insider explained, the royals wanted to “welcome Harry without letting his every move become a constitutional headache, or a source of leaks about private royal business.” The insider added, “That’s why you get an emergency summit to talk about his visit.” This is “because the Harry problem never seems to go away.”
