Kate Middleton’s Wimbledon Outing With Prince George & Princess Charlotte Had a Hidden Detail

Kate Middleton ditched royal titles while introducing her two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, at Wimbledon. The moment came as she conversed with a tennis star before the match began. A few years ago, there was one instance when Middleton and Prince William showed they didn’t mind being addressed by their first names in public, without their royal titles.

Middleton and Prince William attended the men’s singles final of the tennis tournament on July 12, 2026, alongside their kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The match was between Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner, with the latter taking home the win to defend his title for the second consecutive year. Ahead of the match, Middleton, as a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, fulfilled her special greetings duty.

In the clip circulating online, Middleton initially meets ball boys and girls and others before coming across Arthur Fery. She greets him and introduces her children, referring to them just as George and Charlotte. All of Prince William and Middleton’s children have borne the titles of prince or princess since birth. This is because they are the heirs to the future monarchs. Meanwhile, at school, they use “Wales” as their last name, borrowing it from their parents’ royal titles.

Using first names in public is one of the ways Middleton has sought to give the children as much normalcy as possible outside of the constant media attention. A palace insider previously told PEOPLE, “Those children look pretty happy with life. A lot of it is the stabilizing normality Kate brings — and that’s how she grew up. William absolutely loves it.”

A past instance showed that even the royal couple doesn’t mind when people call them by their first names. This happened in 2022, when Nicky Hurst of Country Fare Whole Foods and Fine Cheeses failed to address Middleton and Prince William by their royal titles or “Your Highness” on St. David’s Day. Hurst just called them “Kate” and “Will” when they showed up at the cheese stand. Hurst revealed that though she called them by their original names, they reacted in a pretty “relaxed” manner.

“They’re so down-to-earth, an amazing couple. They will make a fantastic King and Queen — and Prince and Princess of Wales,” she added, praising the royal couple’s humility (via ELLE).
