Teddy Swims’ latest release Break Up in Reverse draws inspiration from his personal life. The singer confirmed his split from Raiche Wright earlier this year while discussing the song’s meaning.
Teddy Swims addressed months of speculation by confirming his breakup with Raiche Wright through his latest music
Break Up in Reverse released on July 10 through Warner Records, is based on Swims’ personal experiences. In a press release issued by Warner Records, he said, “Upon writing this song and my next album, I’ve been going through it with my relationship with my baby’s mother coming to an end.”
Swims explained that although he initially took inspiration from the song Rewind, he ultimately decided to write lyrics based on his own experiences. Speaking about the relationship, he said, “I’m going through a bit of a situation with my baby mother. A little heartbreak is going on. Still, it’s gonna be rock and roll, man.”
The lyrics also reflect moments from the couple’s relationship. In the song, Swims sings, “Cause all I want’s the night back, When your best friend introduced us.” He also appears to reference Wright’s hometown with the lyrics, “You’d be on your way back from Massachusetts, bet it breaks the hearts of stars, when we use ’em as excuses, wish upon a stranger.”
Break Up in Reverse was released on Swims’ YouTube channel, where the video has already received thousands of views.
According to People, Teddy Swims and Raiche Wright first met at a Grammy party. In 2025, they announced they were expecting a son, whom they welcomed in June. The couple later split in 2026. Wright later shared on Instagram that she had experienced a miscarriage following the breakup.
With Break Up in Reverse, Swims gives fans a personal look into a difficult chapter of his life through his music.
