Chicago P.D. Just Lost 1 of Its Biggest Stars as Actor Exits NBC TV Show

Chicago P.D. will bid farewell to one of its longtime stars. He will depart the show after 13 seasons and a brief appearance in Season 14.

Who is leaving Chicago P.D.?

LaRoyce Hawkins will leave the long-running show on NBC ahead of Season 14, according to Variety. Hawkins played Officer Kevin Atwater, who was part of the Intelligence Unit since Season 1.

However, the actor will return to wrap up his character’s role at the start of the upcoming season. The plot behind the character’s exit in Season 14 remains under wraps. But in Season 13, Episode 11, it was revealed that he will be a father, which could be why his character is being written off.

Hawkins has also been part of the other One Chicago series, including Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, with Chicago P.D. All three shows will return with their respective new seasons and most of their casts on October 7 during the 2026-27 broadcast season. Apart from these series, he also reprised his role as Atwater in Chicago Justice.

Hawkins’ credits also include Power Book IV: Force, Shoebox, Ironheart, Beyond the Likes, South Side, Hands Up, The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain, and Canal Street.
