Zohran Mamdani has claimed that he would not stand a chance against one specific rapper. The New York City mayor’s career as a rapper first caught public attention last year when he was vying for the mayoral position. Since then, he has reiterated that he would absolutely lose against one musician.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani is sure this rapper would ‘wash’ him in a rap battle
In a new 360 interview with Complex’s Jillian Superstar, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani reiterated that he would not win a rap battle against A$AP Rocky. “100 percent true. He would wash me. You have to know your limits,” the mayor said when asked if he believes that the Harlem native would be able to defeat him in a rap battle.
“Pretty Boy Flacko, me—there’s not a competition there,” Mamdani said in the interview. “He’s got it, but I will make sure that if he ever wants to work together to make sure that every New Yorker can always strive and prosper, I’m here.”
The NYC mayor was diplomatic about who would actually make a good mayoral candidate. However, he admitted that an official campaign song from Rocky would definitely become a part of his own rotation. “I think he would have the best jingle of any campaign,” Mamdani said. “I would be listening to his jingle.”
The notion of a friendly showdown between the two first surfaced at the Met Gala, when the Don’t Be Dumb singer was asked if he would be willing to battle the mayor. The topic resurfaced again in Rocky’s VIBE cover story in June. Besides expressing interest in running for the NYC mayor position, he also said that he was open to a rap battle.
“Mamdani ain’t f**king with me,” Rocky said. “Listen, I’m already coming for his spot, ’cause I’m about to be Mayor Mayers in like four years… If he wanna battle we can do that, if he wanna have a little debate, we can do that, too.” He also mentioned his plans to run for mayor.
In a statement to Billboard, Deputy Press Secretary Jeremy M. Edwards said, “Mayor Mamdani is well aware that he would lose a rap battle to Lord Flacko.”
