Anything but Ghosts, Curry Barker‘s follow-up movie after the highly successful Obsession, has received major plot details from his frequent collaborator Cooper Tomlinson. The original announcement for the film happened back in September 2025, right after Obsession had its world premiere at the 50th annual Toronto International Film Festival.
Cooper Tomlinson shares details on Anything but Ghosts
Tomlinson spoke about Anything but Ghosts during an interview with the Raiders Of The Lost Podcast in late June. When asked if he was writing and producing Anything but Ghosts with Barker, Tomlinson confirmed, adding, “I am playing one of the leads as well. It’s me and Curry.”
He continued, “The movie is like if Key & Peele walked into Hereditary. It’s a buddy comedy about these two guys, and it turns really scary. It’s about these con artist ghost hunters who encounter real ghosts. And then they have to step up and be the thing they promised this family.”
Notably, Key & Peele is the popular sketch comedy series that Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele developed for Comedy Central. Meanwhile, Hereditary is Ari Aster’s 2018 supernatural psychological horror movie. The stark contrast between the two projects makes Tomlinson’s comparison an especially intriguing tease for Anything but Ghosts.
Some of the above-mentioned plot details have been known at least since May. Barker has also teased that Obsession and Anything but Ghosts take place in the same fictional universe. Besides Barker and Tomlinson, the cast of Anything but You includes Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard, Violet McGraw, and Chris Reinacher.
During the Raiders Of The Lost Podcast, Tomlinson also disclosed what it was like to work with Paul, who previously portrayed Jesse Pinkman in AMC’s Breaking Bad. He hailed Paul as a “leader on set” and “just a cool dude.”
Additionally, during an interview with ComingSoon’s Tyler Treese, Tomlinson underscored that Anything but Ghosts would be “a little more humorous,” before comparing its tone to that of Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay.
Jason Blum is producing Anything but Ghosts through Blumhouse Productions, alongside Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee and Steven Schneider. Divide/Conquer, Image Nation Abu Dhabi, and Barker and Tomlinson’s That’s a Bad Idea are also producing. The movie wrapped production in April, 2026 (via Deadline). It currently doesn’t have a release date, but Focus Features has acquired its US distribution rights.
