A new rumor about DC Studios’ upcoming Clayface could excite fans if it proves to be true. Following Supergirl, Clayface will be the third film set in the DCU, and chronologically, its first.
What is the new Clayface DCU movie rumor?
According to scooper Cryptic HD Quality, Clayface recently screened for test audiences, and the reactions were reportedly positive. The scooper revealed that Matt Hagen has multiple transformations in the film, with a “full transformation later on.” As for how Clayface actually looks in the film, the scooper compared it to a beloved version of the character.
“The design of Clayface is said to look similar to that of his counterpart in Batman: The Animated Series,” wrote the scooper.
Clayface made his debut in Batman: The Animated Series in the two-part episode: Feat of Clay.In the episode, the DC villain begins as a Hollywood actor before becoming the monster after a medical accident. The premise for the upcoming DCU solo film bears a lot of resemblance to Clayface’s origins in the animated show. Clayface’s look in the Batman show is iconic, so if the scooper’s words turn out to be true, fans have a lot to look forward to. As for the Dark Knight, if a recent rumor is to be believed, DC Studios may have already cast its Batman actor. Regardless of the rumor, DC has multiple Batman-related projects in the works.
Clayface is directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan. It stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, the film’s disturbing protagonist. The movie recently added a Breaking Bad star in a mystery role to its cast. Following Supergirl’s underwhelming critical reception, the DCU’s future may depend on Clayface’s reception.
Clayface opens in theaters on October 23, 2026.
