Actress Whitney Cummings recently took a shot at Donald Trump by making a Jeffrey Epstein joke while attending a prize ceremony at the Kennedy Center. Many comedians were gathered at the center to witness TV host Bill Maher receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on June 28, 2026.

According to journalist Ted Johnson of Deadline, Cummings seemingly referred to reports that the President had encounters with the late convicted financier when she made the joke. Johnson went on to reveal on X (formerly known as Twitter), “At Mark Twain Prize for Bill Maher, Trump jokes start right off the bat with Whitney Cummings: “I actually heard Trump may come tonight, but he couldn’t make it. He got caught in sex traffic.”

Trump was also referenced during the ceremony when impersonator Matt Friend jokingly referred to the President’s rant about Maher and asked, “Hold on, Bill – I’m going to let you finish. Why are we giving this low-ratings, lightweight jerk the Mark Twain award?” In his response, Maher played along with Friend’s act and stated, “I know we’ve had our differences, but I’m finally getting an award. Can you just let me have my moment?” (via The New York Times). Though Maher received the award, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had previously denied that the host was receiving the honor.

After The Atlantic reported Maher was named as the winner of the Mark Twain prize, Leavitt told the outlet, “This is fake news. Bill Maher will NOT be getting this award.”
