Donald Trump makes new claims about reflecting pool
Donald Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social post on Sunday, reiterating his claims that vandals were responsible for the recent algae infestation and the peeling paint from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The president also gave updates on some of his other renovation projects.
“The Reflecting Pool is now in full use after suffering great damage from Criminal, Radical Left Vandals, people that truly hate our Country,” Trump wrote. “They cut the lower surface of a very expensive and strong waterproof padding, in the color of American Flag Blue, and put their hands underneath the surface, and ripped it.”
POTUS further claimed that the alleged vandals “cut and butchered a 350-foot-long strip, with many 1 and 2-foot individual cuts, creating great damage to this beautiful piece of art.” Trump went on to announce, “We will drain the water to treat the damage caused by these ‘animals,’ it will again be in perfect shape.” He claimed that the Reflecting Pool is “working well” and “the criminally made algae is gone.”
There has been no evidence to support the president’s claims that vandals caused the algae infestation and the peeling of the paint. Meanwhile, The New York Times has obtained new documents from the National Parks Service that reveal more details. As per the documents, issues with the pool’s lining began shortly after the installation of Trump’s “American Flag Blue” lining.
Earlier this month, the 79-year-old announced that authorities had arrested “multiple individuals for vandalizing” the pool. In another post, he warned, “Please remember that there is a 10-year prison sentence for the destruction, or even the attempted destruction, of such things – Which will be fully enforced.”
