Barack Obama spoke candidly about his health and how he can no longer play basketball the way he used to. The former US President discussed his love for the game and the precautions he needs to follow in an exclusive interview.

Barack Obama confesses his basketball limits at 64

Former President Barack Obama opened up about his basketball limitations at age 64 in a new interview with PEOPLE. He confessed that he’s moving carefully, but he is good. Obama and his wife, Michelle, joked about dyeing his hair, showing off their solid bond.

Soon, the conversation pivoted toward basketball. The interviewer asked whether he plans on playing any pickup games in the new Home Court gym at his Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. Obama quickly denied it, saying, “No.”

He explained that he has to protect his knees and overall health and limit his love for the game. “Now I will take folks on for a game of Horse. We can have some shooting contests. I am not running up and down that court because I want to protect my knees and my Achilles. I don’t want to be in a boot.”

PEOPLE also included shots of Obama playing basketball and enjoying himself.

Continuing further, the 64-year-old shared: “I’m in good shape if I’m just running north-south. You start getting me sideways, and I start worrying about something kind of going [wrong].”

The former President lavished praise on his wife, Michelle, calling her “spectacular.” He also confessed that she is way ahead of him when it comes to fitness and stretching. The former First Lady teased him by asking if he was headed toward “stretching and flexibility.” Obama confirmed with an affirmative.

The internet only had words of praise for the former first couple. One fan commented: “Unbothered Obama’s are my favorite.” A second fan wrote: “So much class.” A third fan penned: “LOVVVEEEEEE THESE TWO!!” A fourth fan chimed in: “He laughs at himself and us. Consistently. I love it.”
