Donald Trump’s UFC Event Left This Actor Feeling Like an ‘Embarrassed American’

Larry David reportedly confessed that he is “embarrassed to be an American” after seeing the recently concluded UFC event at the White House. The highly publicized UFC Freedom 250 event was held at the White House on Donald Trump’s birthday a couple of weeks back. The event was held to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.

Actor Larry David shares his blunt take on Donald Trump’s UFC event

In an interaction with Variety, Larry David stated that Donald Trump’s UFC event was a “travesty.” The reporter asked the star, “This is your way of celebrating America. The White House did it much differently with the UFC fight. What did you think about that?” The Curb Your Enthusiasm star did not mince his words and replied, “It was a travesty. What else can you say about it? It was embarrassing. I was embarrassed to be an American.”

President Trump and UFC CEO Dana White marketed the event as a celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary. The event garnered brickbats from critics across the board. Trump and fellow spectators watched the thrilling fight as American fighter Justin Gaethje beat Spanish-Georgian opponent Ilia Topuria to win the lightweight championship in the main event.

As per the BBC, an estimated 4,300 people were present for the invite-only event, and a whopping 85,000 were expected to watch at a nearby fan zone. The UFC spent about $60 million on the event. At one point, the crowd also sang Happy Birthday to President Trump.

On the other hand, Larry is celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary in his own way. He is debuting his new HBO show, Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America. It premieres on June 26 on HBO and is a satirical sketch show showcasing some important points from U.S. history.

The series features a star-studded cast, including delightful appearances by Curb Your Enthusiasm alumni Jeff Garlin, J.B. Smoove, and Susie Essman as Susan B. Anthony. Former U.S. President Barack Obama acts in one of the skits. Moreover, he and former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground are producing the series (via Variety).
