A new rumor has added another iconic mutant to the growing list of characters in Avengers: Doomsday’s opening scene. According to @MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter), Magneto will appear in the film’s opening battle on Tobey Maguire’s Earth. The scooper previously shared several details about the sequence, including the involvement of Wolverine and the Fox X-Men.
The insider source earlier in February stated, “In Avengers Doomsday, Deadpool and Wolverine are sent to Tobey’s Earth to destroy it.” The same source also confirmed an “EPIC Tobey’s Spider-Man vs Wolverine fight that ends in tragedy.”
Earlier reports painted a broader picture of the opening sequence’s scale and stakes. A livestream from Nerdrotic at Night claimed, “There’s Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man world with Tobey Maguire Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus fighting the Fox X-Men.” The report also alleged that the Fox X-Men destroy Maguire’s Spider-Man in the scene.
However, not all scoopers agree on the details of the sequence’s outcome. Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus disputed Nerdrotic’s claims and stated that Maguire’s Spider-Man does not die in the film. These conflicting accounts have fueled speculation around the character’s ultimate fate in the movie.
Rumors also suggest that the opening battle will end with the destruction of Tobey Maguire’s Earth. Both Maguire and Hugh Jackman reportedly reprise their roles in CGI-enhanced sequences for the scene. Magneto’s addition brings yet another fan-favorite character into what is shaping up to be a massive multiversal confrontation. Notably, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any of the leaked plot details.
Doomsday arrives in theaters later this year, on December 18.
