Jon Stewart mocks Donald Trump’s reflecting pool
In his recent monologue on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart took a new swipe at Donald Trump. The comedian and writer commented on the reported algae bloom and peeling paint at the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, mocking the president’s renovation efforts.
“That is really f***ing green,” Stewart remarked after showing a series of clips capturing the current state of the Pool. “That sh**’s neon. Did they replace the water with Mountain Dew? Didn’t they just have a pool company come in and fix it? How did it get so green?”
One news clip shared that a company called Greenwater Services is tasked with the renovations after winning a no-bid contract. Stewart went on to show the picture of Republican donor John Cafaro, who owns the company, jokingly saying that he looks like “an extra in Guys and Dolls.”
“That’s the pool guy?” Stewart quipped, drawing laughter from the audience. He continued, “It’s like Donnie Brasco got stung by a bee. I’m sorry, to be fair, that’s probably an old picture from, like, the ’80s when Gomez Addams was all the rage. Who is this guy?”
Stewart then showed a clip of Anderson Cooper explaining who Carafo is, revealing he is “a Mar-a-Lago neighbor” who pled guilty “to conspiracy to bribe then-congressman James Traficant Jr.,” in 2001.
Reacting to the information, Stewart joked, “The pool guy bribed the congressman, and now he gets the pool contract. That tracks.” Doing an impersonation of a mob boss, the comedian added, “What do I do? Let’s just say I’m in the chlorine management business.”
Most recently, Trump claimed that vandals are responsible for the new issues in the Reflecting Pool. The POTUS announced via a Truth Social post that authorities have arrested “multiple individuals for vandalizing” the Reflecting Pool.
