Prince Harry has reportedly donated 1 million pounds to the BBC Children in Need charity, and the money did not come from his “personal wealth.” The Duke of Sussex is widely known for his charitable work and philanthropic activities. Recently, he visited Nottingham, a city in central England, where he made the announcement during his trip.
According to new reports, Prince Harry’s donation didn’t come from ‘personal wealth’
A report by Reuters suggests that Prince Harry’s donation did not come from his “personal wealth.” Harry recently visited Nottingham, marking his first visit to Britain in five months, where he made the charity announcement.
BBC Children in Need supports disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. The organization has raised more than 1 billion pounds since 1980 and funds various charities and community projects nationwide. Harry said, “Nottingham has my respect, it always has, my commitment, and a permanent place in my heart.”
He continued, “Violence impacting young people, particularly knife crime, continues to devastate lives, cut futures short, and leave families in grief. I’ve been committed to this work for over a decade, and sadly, the urgency today is even greater than when I first began. We cannot, and must not, and will not look away.”
The Duke of Sussex added that, apart from his own contribution, it would require the efforts of the government, police, businesses, and schools working together holistically to create a better environment.
After donating around 1 million pounds, the contribution is considered one of the largest publicly disclosed individual donations ever made by a British royal.
Royal family members often support charities with significant donations, though many of these are not publicly disclosed. King Charles previously donated to relief efforts in Turkey and Syria following the 2023 earthquake, though the amount was not made public. Prince William has also supported various charities, food banks, and mental health organizations over the years, with donation amounts often kept private.
