The shark thriller Chum is heading to AMC+ after a short theatrical and digital run. The movie arrives on the streaming service very soon despite weak reviews. Chum is the latest entry in the long-running creature feature genre, though its reception has been far less favorable than many of its predecessors.
When the shark thriller Chum arrives on AMC+
As per When to Stream, AMC+ subscribers will be able to stream Chum beginning July 24, 2026. The film first launched on VOD and digital platforms on June 5 and was released in select theaters on the same day. The movie comes from Independent Film Company and marks director Jonathan Zuck’s latest feature.
The movie is set around a destination wedding in Malta, where things go from dreamy to downright chaotic in a hurry. What starts as a happy celebration turns into a nightmare after a deadly shark crashes the party.
The situation becomes even worse when a fisherman with his own hidden motives enters the picture. Caught between a killer lurking in the water and a threat on land, the wedding guests are forced to do anything to survive.
The cast is led by Alice Eve alongside Eric Michael Cole, Elle Haymond, Sarah Siadat and Jim Klock. Alice Eve is best known for films such as Star Trek Into Darkness and She’s Out of My League.
While the film features recognizable talent, critics have not responded positively. Chum currently holds a 16% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an IMDb rating of 2.9/10, placing it among the lower-rated shark thrillers in recent years.
The mixed reception stands in contrast to some of the genre’s biggest success stories. Shark movies have remained popular for decades thanks to classics such as Jaws, which helped define the modern summer blockbuster. More recent hits like The Shallows, 47 Meters Down, The Meg and Deep Blue Sea found audiences thanks to their suspense, action and creature-feature thrills.
Whether Chum becomes a streaming surprise remains to be seen, but AMC+ subscribers will soon have the chance to decide for themselves when the film arrives on July 24.
