Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie opened up about why she had to return to acting after divorcing Brad Pitt. The high-profile couple officially split in 2016 after Jolie shocked the world by filing for divorce. Before their controversial breakup, they were together for 12 years and married for over two.
What did Angelina Jolie say about her divorce with Brad Pitt?
Before filing for divorce, Jolie actually shifted her focus from acting to directing and doing humanitarian work. In her recent interview with Variety, Jolie admitted that she had no choice but to accept acting projects again to earn “a good amount of money,” which granted financial stability for her family. In addition, she also shared how her older children helped her regain her “fighting spirit” after the divorce.
“I think my fighting spirit is finally back. I lost it for a bit. I got kind of taken down a little bit, and it’s coming back in large part thanks to my children, who are now older, and encouraging it . . . I had kind of quit acting before my divorce,” Jolie said. “I was focusing on directing, and I thought I’d be doing my international work. But then, suddenly, the only way to be home more and for short periods of time, being away, or to make a good amount of money, was to go back to acting. I was only taking things that were short or close by, or I could take [my children].”
Even though the divorce settlement between the former Oscar-winning couple was formally finalized on December 30, 2024, their legal battle against each other is still ongoing over their multi-million-dollar French winery. At the moment, all six of their children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox, have publicly dropped their father’s last name.
