A part of The View‘s live studio audience members reportedly refused to applaud for JD Vance. The vice president received this cold reception when he arrived for his recent interview on the show. Vance joined the hosts to promote his latest memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.
Some ‘The View’ viewers stay silent during JD Vance’s entrance
JD Vance appeared on The View on June 16 as part of the promotional tour for his new book. As the vice president walked in to join the hosts, he received a cold greeting from some parts of the audience. While the co-hosts of the show welcomed Vance, there were several audience members who sat motionless, refusing to join in the applause.
The six panelists — Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Joy Behar — stood up to greet Vance on the set. “We’ve been asking our next guest to join us for a while now, so we’re glad he’s taking us up on the offer today,” Goldberg said ahead of the interview.
This isn’t the first time The View audience members have expressed disapproval of certain political guests on the show. In May 2023, the crowd booed conservative New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu following his answer to a question regarding gun control. Back in October 2022, multiple climate change protesters interrupted an interview with Ted Cruz.
The View host Whoopi Goldberg has also condemned Vance’s “childless cat ladies” comment about the political left in the past. In his new book, Vance admitted that he made a mistake making the remark, calling it a “boneheaded comment.” “One of the dumbest things I ever said came when I argued that ‘childless cat ladies’ across the Democrat Party were running our country into the ground,” the VP wrote in his book.
