Jimmy Fallon Exits Madonna’s Confessions II Interview at Last Minute

Jimmy Fallon pulled out of Madonna’s Confessions II interview at the last minute. Anderson Cooper stepped in to take his place on short notice. The CNN anchor handled the interview with Madonna smoothly at the Tribeca Festival premiere of her short film, despite the last-minute switch.

Jimmy Fallon replaced by Anderson Cooper after exiting Madonna interview

Anderson Cooper stepped in for Jimmy Fallon after the late-night host exited Madonna’s interview at the last minute at the Friday night premiere of her upcoming short film, Confessions II. The late-night host was initially slated for the live interview at the Beacon Theatre as part of the Tribeca Festival.

Variety reported that Cooper replaced Fallon on short notice after a scheduling conflict forced the late-night host to bow out. Following Jimmy Fallon’s exit, Anderson Cooper covered a range of topics in his Q&A, including Madonna’s desire to write dance music while she searched for a writer for a planned scripted series about her life. TORSO directors David Toro and Solomon Chase also joined the discussion.

Confessions II features a lineup that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Gwendoline Christie, Kate Moss, Richard E. Grant, plus Sabrina Carpenter, who duets with Madonna on “Bring Your Love,” and more.

Madonna kicked off Confessions II promotion Thursday with a surprise Times Square pop-up. The sequel to her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor got a shock debut as she straddled a glass barrier 30 feet up, drawing massive crowds to Midtown.

The short film serves as an extension of her new album, built on the first six songs. One track, “Danceteria,” nods to the closed NYC club that shaped Madonna’s nightlife scene and introduced her to longtime friend Debi Mazar, also in the film.

Additionally, Madonna continues work on the long-developing biopic that she’ll direct, starring Julia Garner. The Weapons actress also features in the 13-minute Confessions II short, where Madonna physically transforms into her.

Confessions II – The Film debuts on YouTube on June 8, followed by Madonna’s next studio album, Confessions II, which arrives on July 3 through Warner Records.
