Donald Trump took to social media to back the Protect College Sports Act. He highlighted how, under the current system, college sports could become unsustainable as institutions may no longer be able to afford them. He therefore urged lawmakers to send a bipartisan Act of Congress to his desk. The president stated that it would help prevent U.S. college sports from traveling a harsh road in the future.
Donald Trump posts lengthy message about college sports on Truth Social
The US president shared a lengthy message on his stance on the current fractured college sports system on Truth Social. He wrote, “Many Athletes, Leaders, and Olympic Dominance is a total ‘mess.'” Moreover, he added, “Everyone is saying that it must be fixed. After unending lawsuits and crazed rulings, there are virtually no limits anymore. Soon, most Colleges won’t have Sports because each and every one of them will be bankrupt, never to be heard from again.”
He further provided an example of women’s college sports and the Olympics, claiming that they’re already under threat. He stressed how college sports are slowly turning into pro sports with no concrete rulebook in place.
Trump stated that several people in the industry have reached out to him to complain about the current broken system. He added that it’s resulting in the institutions losing a lot of money every year. He revealed that a few months back, he set up a meeting to find a permanent bipartisan solution to the existing problem. Although he signed an executive order earlier, he believes the best solution is the bipartisan act of Congress.
“I’d like to thank Senators Ted Cruz, Eric Schmitt, Maria Cantwell, and Chris Coons, among others, for introducing the Protect College Sports Act. This Law resolves many of the most urgent issues challenging our Universities and Student-Athletes, and stops the chaos. Most importantly, it may be the last chance to save College Sports before it’s too late,” he continued. He concluded his message by urging lawmakers to pass the aforementioned bill and save the future of college sports.
