Donald Trump‘s national approval ratings have continued to decline amid the rising prices of gas and other essential commodities. A recently conducted poll has revealed that almost all independents, Democrats, and even Republicans have agreed that gas prices are on a steep rise.
New poll shows how Americans feel about gas prices
According to a new Marquette Law School study, 95% of those Americans studied believe that gasoline costs have increased over the last six months. This statistic comes as a shock to the Donald Trump administration, as public opinion about gas prices was at the opposite end of the spectrum in January 2026. At the start of the year, 50% of the survey takers had stated that the price of gas had actually gone down over the last six months of 2025, with only 21% believing that the rates had surged.
In accordance, the President’s overall approval rating has also declined and currently sits at 38%.
The poll also revealed that there was little difference between the views of Republicans, Democrats, and independents regarding the issue. While 95% of independents and 96% of Democrats agreed that gas prices were on the rise, 93% of Republicans appeared to agree with the notion.
Notably, the public’s views regarding increasing gas prices reflect the financial realities of the situation, given that the national gas average, before Donald Trump announced the war on Iran, stood at $2.98 per gallon (via BBC News). In sharp contrast, the present national gas average reads $4.241 per gallon, as per AAA Gas Prices.
Donald Trump’s approval rating when it comes to gasoline prices stands at only 19% among all adults. When declassified, the rating goes down to 6% among independents and 4% among Democrats. Republicans, however, have provided the president with a slightly better approval rating, with a 38% rating.
