Authorities Confirm No Foul Play in Betty Broderick’s Disturbing Fall

Betty Broderick, who became infamous for the 1989 killings of her former husband and his new wife, died at the age of 78 on May 8. Now, a month after her death, the San Bernardino County Coroner has confirmed that the convicted murderer died accidentally.

Convicted murderer Betty Broderick’s death was accidental, per a coroner’s report

In a TMZ report published on June 3, Betty died at a hospital in Chino, California, after suffering a fall in prison while battling several health conditions, according to her son, Daniel Broderick. Following the fall, she suffered broken ribs and was later admitted to the intensive care unit with septic infections. The son updated that his mother was temporarily placed on life support, which was later withdrawn before doctors pronounced her dead.

Broderick, one of San Diego’s most infamous killers, was found guilty of second-degree murder in 1991 in connection with the deaths of Daniel Broderick III, 44, and Linda Kolkena Broderick, 28. She received a 32-year-to-life sentence.

Betty and Dan Broderick, who met at the University of Notre Dame, married in 1969, according to TOWN&COUNTRY. They married after four years and later had two daughters and two sons.

In the early 1980s, as their marriage took a turn for the worse, her husband began a relationship with Linda Kolkena, a former flight attendant he had hired as a legal assistant. In 1985, Dan Broderick filed for divorce and entered a four-year custody dispute. Following that, he received custody, and Betty got visitation rights. He eventually married Kolkena, and just seven months into their marriage, the couple were killed.

During Betty’s time in prison, she was denied parole on several occasions. In 2020, her story was adapted into the Netflix series Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story.
