Marco Rubio lashed out at Democratic lawmakers over questions regarding his “shoes.” The Secretary of State called the recent Congressional hearing a “circus,” expressing his frustration with the barrage of questions. He further argued that he was not receiving enough time to respond.
Marco Rubio gets questioned by Congress about his shoes
Marco Rubio tore into Rep. Sara Jacobs, D-California, during Wednesday’s House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing after she questioned him about the pair of shoes he received from Donald Trump as a gift (via APT). The heated exchange followed Jacobs’ criticism of Rubio’s testimony regarding the recent Iran conflict, accusing him of refusing to acknowledge facts.
“Mr. Secretary, it seems like you have an issue admitting facts… You couldn’t admit the shoes the president bought you were too big,” Jacobs said. In response, Rubio fumed, “I don’t know about the shoes. I mean, [Trump] gave me some Florsheim shoes that are actually pretty good; they fit fine, I don’t know what she’s talking about.”
During the hearing, Rubio repeatedly faced questions regarding the Trump administration’s decisions on foreign policy, including its actions related to the conflict with Iran. At one point, Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., probed the Secretary of State about whether Trump’s personal financial interests may have played a role in the decision surrounding the military action against Iran.
Rumio firmly dismissed the suggestion, saying, “Not once.” He added, “Just to be clear, not a single time, not even for a millisecond, has the president ever discussed his personal economics and relations to war or any public policy that he’s made, for that matter. And I’ve been in every one of his foreign policy meetings for the most part.”
Tensions continued to flare during the hearing, as Democratic lawmakers fired questions at Rubio about multiple pressing issues, including allegations of corruption within the administration. The Secretary of State expressed his frustrations some moments later. He argued that the lawmakers were not allowing him sufficient time to answer the questions.
“What kind of thing is this? What is this? You know, you get asked questions for five minutes, and you don’t get time to answer. It’s not a hearing,” Rubio fumed. He added, “Is this a dunk tank? What is this?”
