In a recent discussion around childcare and parenting in Melbourne, Prince Harry touched a raw spot in the cancer-stricken King.
King Charles is reported to be extremely “wounded” by what may be a misunderstanding of Harry’s statements about his parenting philosophy.
Prince Harry’s thoughts on parenting could have been misinterpreted by King Charles
Harry took to the stage to express his opinions about parenting, saying, “I see parenting evolving over time… our kids are our upgrade. Not to say that I’m an upgrade of my dad or that my kids upgraded me, but that’s the approach I take.”
A palace aide told RadarOnline: “Whenever Harry speaks publicly about family, people inevitably look for references to his own upbringing. Even when names are not mentioned directly, comparisons are inevitably drawn with his own life and family feuds.
He also spoke about why the speech was ill-received, saying, “Charles has always been sensitive to suggestions that he failed as a father. At a time when he is focused on his health and public duties, any renewed scrutiny of those family relationships is particularly painful. This is why Harry’s latest dig at him has left the monarch deeply wounded.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave up their royal duties in 2020, and have since then talked extensively about their negative experiences while living as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex within the royal fold. Mother of Archie and Lilibet, Meghan Markle also took the opportunity of an explosive Oprah Winfrey episode in 2021, where Markle talked about the toxic atmosphere in the royal inner circle.
Whether this was a reaction to the King’s supposed treatment of Prince Harry as a child, or just a piece of opinion aligned with the event that launched a report examining the mental health of fathers with young children – it’s hard to tell.
