Donald Trump Hits Record Low Approval Rating in Usually Favorable Poll

President Donald Trump‘s approval rating has fallen to a record low in a poll that has long favored him. The decline reflects mounting voter frustration with the economy, living costs, and foreign policy. The latest survey from Big Data Poll, conducted between May 24 and 27, questioned 3,121 registered voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 1.8%.

Donald Trump’s approval rating in normally favorable poll drops drastically

The new poll found just 39.4% of respondents approve of Donald Trump’s job performance. It is the first time he has dipped into the 30s during his second term. Nearly 20% said they strongly approve, but that was far outweighed by the 46.2% who expressed strong disapproval.

There is now a larger share of registered voters who strongly disapprove of the president than the total proportion who approve, the firm noted. Its intensity index, measuring the gap between strong approval and strong disapproval, hit -26.3 — the widest negative split ever recorded by the organization.

Trump’s approval rating has dropped substantially from earlier this year. In January, Trump held a 44.8% approval rating in the same survey. That number had already slipped from the 55.5% mark Big Data Poll recorded when he returned to office. The steady erosion suggests a widening loss of confidence rather than a sudden collapse.

Economic worries sit at the heart of the decline. On the economy and jobs, only 38.5% said they approved of Trump’s handling, against 56.9% who disapproved — an 18.4-point deficit. The cost of living turned out to be an even sharper pain point, as 29% approved while 66.5% disapproved, a yawning gap of -37.5 points.

Foreign policy has also dented Trump’s approval rating. Regarding the war in Iran, disapproval stood at 58.3% against 33.7% approval. The poll also found that 53.4% of respondents opposed US military strikes in Iran, compared with 36.5% in favor. On every individual issue tested, Trump’s ratings turned negative.

Rich Baris, who oversees the poll, said voters have simply run out of patience with both the administration and the majority party.
