Kurt Russell has opened up about why he and Goldie Hawn moved from Los Angeles to Colorado for a quieter life. The veteran actor recalled his decision to trade red carpets and traffic for mountain air in a recent interview.

Kurt Russell has revealed the full story behind his move from Los Angeles to Colorado.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the Madison FYC Panel in Los Angeles on May 30, Russell opened up about his move from Los Angeles to Colorado. There, he and Goldie Hawn own a log-cabin lodge. The 75-year-old actor noted that the property allows him to focus on the daily activities he values most.
“What I want to look at, what I want to be a part of — all the things that Colorado has to offer. I wanted to eventually get into the ranching life,” Russell explained.
“When Goldie and I got together, a couple of years later, we both built a ranch there together, where our family has grown up. That was 40 years ago,” he added.
Russell, however, emphasized he was not trying to “escape” Los Angeles when he decided to leave. He remarked that the move was uncommon among his peers in the entertainment industry at the time.
According to Russell, more people have been moving away from Los Angeles since his relocation.
“I don’t dislike L.A. It’s just not my preference in terms of how I like to live my life,” the Breakdown actor clarified.
Russell also told PEOPLE he and Hawn moved partly so that their children could experience Colorado life with them.
“It’s very different from living in a city. They grew up with a good dose of what nature can offer. There are difficulties to it, but there are also great rewards to it. I’m just more comfortable there,” he shared.
Their blended family includes Boston Russell, whom Kurt Russell shares with ex-wife Season Hubley; Oliver and Kate Hudson, from Goldie Hawn’s prior marriage to Bill Hudson; and Wyatt Russell, the couple’s youngest son.
