Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are teaming up for a new untitled docuseries on Disney+. The show will follow SailGP’s BONDS Flying Roos from Australia, co-owned by both actors. Jackman shared the news on X, teasing that one of them will end up in the water.

Disney+ greenlit the series, which centers on the Australian sailing team’s global racing season. The BONDS Flying Roos, formerly the Australia SailGP Team, compete in a stadium-style championship. Olympic gold medallist and three-time SailGP champion Tom Slingsby leads the crew as driver and CEO.

The docuseries will blend humor, pressure, and behind-the-scenes access to the sport. “This is our first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates. We hope there’s pirates in SailGP,” Jackman and Reynolds said in a joint statement.

Eric Schrier, President of Direct-to-Consumer International Originals at Disney, expressed enthusiasm for the project. He stated the series offers “a remarkable inside view of this thrilling sport and what it takes to compete at the highest level.” Schrier added that the team looks forward to bringing this story to Disney+ audiences worldwide.

SailGP features identical 50-foot catamarans racing along close-to-shore courses at speeds reaching 100 km/h. The Rolex SailGP Championship brings together top athletes competing for US$12.8 million in prize money. Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions produce the docuseries in partnership with SailGP and the BONDS Flying Roos team.

Brent Hodge serves as director and showrunner for the upcoming series. Rob Mac, co-chairman of Wrexham AFC and executive producer of Welcome to Wrexham, will executive produce. The series will stream on Disney+ internationally and on Disney+ and Hulu in the United States.
