Donald Trump Says He’s ‘In No Hurry’ as Iran War Deal Remains Out of Reach

U.S. President Donald Trump just revealed what could happen if Iran talks fall apart. The president addressed the ongoing conflict and explained his approach to the stalled peace negotiations.

Donald Trump says he’s in no ‘hurry’ for peace deal

U.S. President Donald Trump stated Saturday that he is in “no hurry” to reach a peace deal with Iran. The conflict between the two nations has now dragged into its fourth month. Trump made the remarks during a Fox News interview with his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump. CNBC reported that the ongoing negotiations remain stalled over key demands.

Trump emphasized his priority of securing a deal that prevents Iran from ever acquiring a nuclear weapon. He acknowledged wanting speed but stressed the importance of quality over haste. “I’d like to say I’m in a hurry because gasoline prices are going to come tumbling down, but if you’re going to be in a hurry, you’re not going to make a good deal,” Trump said. He added, “And slowly but surely we’re getting, I think, what we want, and if we don’t get what we want we’re going to end it a different way.”

The president also issued a direct military threat if talks collapse. “We’re going to make a great deal, [otherwise] we’ll just go back and finish it off militarily,” he said. U.S. and Iranian negotiators have worked for weeks to reach a compromise during a tenuous ceasefire.

The war has severely disrupted global energy markets since Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait carries roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and remains largely impassable. Gas prices in the U.S. averaged about $4.34 per gallon on Sunday, according to AAA. Inflation has risen to its highest level since May 2023 as a result.

Trump has demanded that Iran immediately reopen the Strait as part of any agreement. He ended a White House meeting on Friday without reaching a final decision on the deal. According to Axios, Trump requested edits around the handling of Iran’s nuclear material. He also added language prohibiting Iran from purchasing a nuclear weapon alongside existing development bans.
