The future of the Michael franchise is still moving forward, and Miles Teller has now shared a small but important update. While speaking at Cannes, the actor confirmed that conversations around the sequel are active after the first film turned into a major global box office success. Teller also hinted that the story is far from finished.
Miles Teller addresses the prospects of Michael sequel
During an interview with IndieWire at Cannes, Miles Teller briefly spoke about the next chapter of Michael, the biopic centered on the life of Michael Jackson. Teller plays music attorney John Branca in the film and said the creative team still wants to continue the story. “As far as the sequel goes, I know they’re working on it,” Teller explained. He added that while he has not had detailed conversations yet, “the team is excited to complete that story.”
The update comes after Michael became one of the biggest movies of the year worldwide. The Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic recently crossed more than $700 million globally, including over $420 million internationally (via Deadline).
The movie stars Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, alongside Colman Domingo, Juliano Valdi, Miles Teller, Mike Myers, and more. The film stayed strong at the box office for weeks and even reclaimed the No. 1 spot globally during its fourth weekend.
Teller’s comments arrived while he was promoting Paper Tiger, director James Gray’s new crime drama that premiered at Cannes to strong reactions. The actor stars opposite Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson in the film, which follows two brothers pulled into dangerous dealings with the Russian mafia. Teller revealed that personal grief, including losing his home in the Palisades fire and his grandfather’s death, emotionally shaped his performance.
Over the years, Teller has built a varied career with films like Whiplash, Top Gun: Maverick, The Spectacular Now, and Bleed for This. From intense dramas to blockbuster hits, he has steadily become one of Hollywood’s most reliable leading actors.
