Spider-Man 4 Fans Think MJ Is a Villain After New Poster

Following the release of the new Spider-Man 4 posters, a new fan theory is going around suggesting that Zendaya’s MJ might be a villain in the movie. However, this is just a speculation, and the chances of it being true are minimal. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is coming to theaters on July 31, 2026. Apart from Zendaya and Tom Holland, the movie features Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, and Jon Bernthal.

Spider-Man 4 poster fuels interesting MJ villain theory

Sony recently dropped new footage and a poster of Spider-Man 4 at CinemaCon. The poster in question showcased a zoomed-in image of Spider-Man’s mask with a reflection of Zendaya’s MJ featured on the eye of the mask.

This prompted many fans to take to social media to draw comparisons with posters from past Spider-Man movies. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), user Rock Rider shared a collage of the new poster, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movie poster with Jamie Foxx’s villain Electro appearing on the mask’s eye, and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man poster with Otto Octavius featured similarly.

The aforementioned post led many fans to theorize that Zendaya’s MJ might be a villain in the movie, given the pattern of posters. However, likely, the theory is not true as there are already several major confirmed villains in the upcoming Marvel movie.

A user commented under the post, “Who knew that the biggest Spiderman villain would not be Ock or Electro, but Zendaya.” Another user wrote, “This pattern suggests MJ will be the villain of the movie lol.” Moreover, a third user went on to assert, “MJ is the villain, that means.” Some fans even began speculating which villain MJ could be, with some believing her to be a Skrull and some stating that she might be the Green Goblin.

Meanwhile, according to a report by Variety, Tom Holland addressed the audience via a hologram at CinemaCon and showed the new footage. While speaking, the actor described Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the “most emotional ‘Spider-Man’ we’ve ever made. And the most grown-up.”
