Multiple Democrats Call for Donald Trump’s Removal After Iran Threats

Multiple Democratic leaders called for the removal of President Donald Trump via the 25th Amendment after the President’s controversial comments on Tuesday, in which he gave Iran an ultimatum for a ceasefire and threatened to wipe out a “whole civilization.” Though a ceasefire has been announced since, Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill want impeachment and removal of the president via the 25th Amendment.

While Donald Trump has been gathering heat for quite some time now, his comments on Truth Social giving Iran an ultimatum are being seen by many as the last straw. The President threatened to wipe out a “whole civilization” in a Truth Social post. In another post, the President used profanity against the country, which was also not received well by others.

More than 70 lawmakers, including a handful of senators, have now said in separate social media posts that Trump’s Cabinet needs to invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution and declare him unfit to serve (via NBC).

Senator Ed Markey said in a statement, “The House and Senate must return to session. The House must pass articles of impeachment, and then the Senate must vote to convict and remove the President. Or, the cabinet and Vice President, with congressional concurrence, must invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump.”

“No President in control of his senses would publicly promise to eradicate an entire civilization,” Senator Chris Murphy added, while Rep. Ro Khanna said, “We need to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump. Threatening war crimes is a blatant violation of our constitution and the Geneva Conventions.”

The outrage caused by Trump’s comments was not exclusive to Democrats. Even some Republicans were shocked by the comments. Moreover, even the United Nations posted a reminder from their official X account about the Geneva Conventions in the wake of Trump’s take. “Even wars have rules. The Geneva Conventions protect civilians in conflict and help ensure assistance reaches those in need, without discrimination,” the official account posted, without giving context directly.

Since then, there has been a temporary ceasefire, but Democrats continue demanding Trump’s removal.
