Hit Netflix TV Show With 79% on RT Returns for Season 2 Shortly

Season 2 of a sports comedy series will soon be available to stream on Netflix. It is an LA Lakers-inspired series that follows Isla Gordon, the President of a fictional basketball team, the LA Waves.

Running Point Season 2 begins streaming on Netflix in April

Running Point Season 2 will arrive on Netflix on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The show is loosely based on LA Lakers co-owner and governor Jeanie Buss, who also serves as an executive producer.

A trailer for Season 2 has yet to be released. However, Netflix shared a few images from the upcoming season on Tudum earlier this year. It also notes that the next installment will pick up right after the events of Season 1’s dramatic finale.

The show follows Isla Gordon, who is suddenly put in charge of the Los Angeles Waves, her family’s basketball franchise. She must work with her dysfunctional family while navigating the sports politics and player drama to prove herself worthy of handling the business after her father ignored her entire life.

Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen serve as the showrunners, lead writers, and co-producers. It features Kate Hudson as Isla, Drew Tarver as Sandy, Scott MacArthur as Ness, and Brenda Song as Ali Lee, among others.

Running Point Season 1, with all 10 episodes, debuted on Netflix in February 2025. Similarly, Season 2 will comprise 10 episodes and is expected to become available on the same day. Most of the last season’s cast is returning, in addition to Ray Romano, Ken Marino, Tommy Dewey, Richa Moorjani, Jake Picking, and a few more.

From a critical standpoint, the show has garnered a mixed-to-positive response from both critics and the audience. Season 1 currently has a 79% Tomatometer score and of 81% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, the show topped Netflix’s US charts in early March 2025, per Showlabs.
